Default Engine Sources

Need to replace one of the mains on my 3000.

Looking for sources to purchase either a turn key or as fully dressed as possible replacement.
Original is a 1999 Mercruiser 5.0 Carbureted Bravo 2.

Any help with reliable sources would be appreciated

I've had a few friends who've done their own repower buy engines from Michigan Motorz. I bought a Bravo III from them.

I have read on other forums of many folks who dealt with Michigan Motors and were happy with them.

One suggestion, if you decide to buy your own engine.......Advise them ahead of time if you need a truck with a lift gate. They will often assume you either have a dock with a pallet jack, or a fork lift. They rarely deliver engines to residences or places that can't unload. It helps if this is on the shipping instructions ahead of time.

There is nothing worse than standing on the ground staring up at the pallet as the driver says, "Where's your forklift?"

And if you require a truck with a liftgate there is an additional deliver charge for it.

You might also try Doug Russell Marine. For re power I purchased a Mercruiser Horizon 350 MPI for the Bravo 2 drive on my 2400 SCR. Have had it 11 years and still runs like new.

I also bought an engine from them years ago when I repowered a Sea Ray 200 and was very pleased.

I just bought one today from Jasper, not the cheapest, but 3 year parts and labor warranty for 3100. Labor only if it is installed at one of their authorized locations, Labor will be 850 to 1100 ish at this shop.

I bought a 30 hour mechanic's special 2004 1800 SR3 with a 4.3 liter Mercruiser with a cracked block from freezing. A naked longblock from these guys with high compression pistons left me shy of $2,000. https://www.rapidomarine.com/default...ngines262.aspx

All the original ancillaries were perfect, so I swapped them all over. I used a forklift at our work yard to remove the old one/ install the new one. Didn't even have a helper, unless you count beer as a helper. And it IS. Swapping over all the ancillaries was more time consuming than you would think, at least for me. I chased threads with a set of taps, and generally took my time. Your local Autozone will have an oil pump priming tool for free rental, even if the kid at the front desk doesn't know what it is. DO NOT skip this step.

I've got about 12 hours on the new engine. So far so good. Their website could use a little help, but they offer fully assembled engines as well. I enjoy this type of stuff, but it's quite the undertaking. If you find a good mechanic to do the work at a decent price, write the check.
