Default Drive gear lube in the bildge

Hi everyone, I have a question. If the gear lube monitor is not connected to anything will it spill gear lube into the bildge? Sorry but I have a second question also I have a 2001 Maxim SR 21. Should it have a gear oil reservoir? Thanks everyone for your

Yes, if it is disconnected lube will just pour into the bilge. BTY the fitting at the transom is known for breaking causing this. Yes, it should have gear lube to maintain level in the drive.

Yes. I'm not even sure how you'd purge air and fill the drive properly without one.

You should have a gear lube monitor bottle. This is the reservoir and monitor. If the bottle goes too low you should get an alarm. The hose at the bottom of the bottle goes to a fitting on the transom (yes they break and are a PITA to replace!). When the drive is in place this is a 2 way flow. When the drive is removed the fitting on the transom has a spring loaded shutoff. I'm not sure what you mean by not connected to anything. If the monitor bottle hose is dangling unattached in the bilge then any oil in the bottle would drain into the bilge.
