I would suggest staying as close to land as possible. Top off your fuel and pump your waste prior to crossing the St. George's Channel.

Thank you for your input, I was thinking more of engine reliability and endurance over longer passage but I tend to agree and will initially look at shortest route to the Uk and head down. Many thanks

The alarm will sound for one of three things; overheat, low oil pressure and low gear lube in the reservoir. The last is a common one. Note that the alarm system uses separate senders than the helm gauges so it's possible to have a bad alarm sender even though the gauge is reading ok.

Liam this is gear lube for the outdrive (leg) not the engine oil, you need top it off with the same gear lube that’s already in the drive. Have you ever had it changed? I use Mercruiser/Quicksilver high performance lube.

Mercury/Quicksilver Gear Lube is 90Weight. I've only ever used Merc/Quicksilver brand.

Liam, once you add HP 90 gear lube into the reservoir up to the full-to line. Then keep a close eye on it because it may go down considerably. Which will set off the alarm again. Now you to check for air in the outdrive.

Hi Mike, thank you for all the info, I have topped it up with the right lube and this has rectified the alarm. I took the boat out and although I am still having teething issues with other things, the gear lube has remained topped up.
Thank you for your help.

If you are unsure of the boat, and crossing a large body of open water that you have not crossed before I would rethink crossing alone and find a buddy boat to go with you!
