Default Boat will not start.

I have a 5.7L Mercruiser alpha one I/O engine with only 41 hours for my boat. I had issues starting it and so I replaced the starter, solenoid, and charged up the battery to ensure it was good to go... went to start it after the replacements and all I get is a click. Any possibilities as to what it is?

Getting a click is the symptom of low voltage. Ensure the voltage is not dropping below 12V when cranking with a volt meter. Are the battery cables clean and tight at both the battery and the other ends including the ground connection to the engine block. Another common issue is a bad slave soleniod.

Lanyard switch off would still allow the engine to crank just not start.

Neutral safety switch would prevent cranking and he would not hear a click.

To my knowledge there isn't a kill lanyard. And the battery connections are tight. The only issue I can possibly see is a bad battery but I've tried starting the boat with the battery being charged. Would jumping it while starting it make a difference? Lastly, the battery was New as of January 2017 so I don't see why that would be an issue. I don't have a colt meter to check it though.

The lanyard kill switch is on the bottom of the throttle control. To my knowledge they because required before the Maxum line was started.

Is the ground wire from the battery to engine block clean and tight on the block?

It's rare but new battery's can be bad, yes you can jump with another battery.

Another potential issue could be a locked engine, when did it last run?

I dewinterized it in march, took it out on the lake before I bought it and had no issues. Then started it up mid April with no problems. End of April it started clicking when I would try to start it. The boat shop just said they think the engine got hydrolocked 👀 They're going to open it up and take a look. If that is the issue, anyone know about a range of cost to fix it or would I have to get a whole new engine?

Water in the cylinders could be from bad exhaust to a bad engine.

Exhaust could cost $1000 for part

Engine could cost $9000 for a new long block installed.

Pull the spark plugs to see if any water comes out.

Pull all the plugs and see if it turns over then.
