Default 7.4 454 Mercruiser Engine Problems

Hello, I am new to Maxum owners club. I just recently purchased a 1995 2300 SR with a 7.4 454 (Bored to a 468). I ran the boat once for 1.5 hrs, it ran really well! Then the boat sat in Salt Water for 2 weeks, where I moore it (didn't run the boat for 2 weeks just the blige pump). Yesterday I go to take the boat out and the engine would not turn over right away as usual. I got the boat going and warming it up then noticed the vents were letting off a lot of steam into the carb. Then I noticed a green fluid coming out of the PCV valves. Then I checked the oil and the same green sludge was in the oil (mixed with oil). The boat will not run, just idle.

Do I have a blown head gasket? This is my first boat here in Seattle. Does anyone know a good mechanic that I can take it to and have it repaired, in the Seattle area? I have owned this boat for 4 weeks now, super bummed out.

Welcome aboard

Not a good start to boating nor the season

I am assuming you have closed cooling, heat exchanger and the green stuff is antifreeze. Could be head gasket or leaky intake. A compression or leak down test will tell you about the heads. Try removing the spark plugs to see if coolant is in the cylinders.

I'm on the other coast so I cannot recommend a mechanic.

Did you have gen engine workndown or the previous owner?, if you the mechanic should cover this.

I would recommend Jim @ Yarrow Bay Marina in Kirkland.
PM me if you need Yarrow Bay's contact info.
