Default 5.0 random black wire

Hello fellow Maxum owners!
I own a '99 Maxum 2352MH. I bought it 4 years ago and have had it under cover unused since then as a project. I am trying to get it squared away so we can use it. I have replaced the carb and the normal Alpha One gen 2 outdrive maintenance. While I was doing a wiring check I found a random black wire with a ring terminal on it. I have attached pics of the wire and where it comes out of the harness between the carb and distributor. Can anyone tell me if this wire is supposed to be connected somewhere? It seems odd that if it isn't used that it would have a ring terminal on it.
Also since I will be using it in the Pacific, I'd like to get a replacement compass for it since only the base ring is all that's left of the original...lol. Preferably one that's plug-n-play.

Thanks much!
Darren

I have seen this extra wire many of times my guess is it’s there for when setting base timing on the Thunderbolt V ignition as you need to ground a wire to ensure the computer doesn’t provide any ignition advance.

Agreed. It's a common ground system. If everything works, ignore it.
