Question 1998 SR with 454 and no power.

I've used the boat w/o issue for two seasons. This year, nada. Electrical issue, probably related to the 50 amp fuse.

Question: Was the 454 original equipment in the '98 1900 SR?

Need some electrical troubleshooting advice, an electrical schematic, and a multimeter?

I downloaded 24 Marine Engines GM V-8 1999 from the documents. Is this relevant and a good reference to get started?

Not sure if it was, but if it’s engine related electrical, all 454 engine electrical for that year will be the same. Harness is from Mercury not model/brand specific.

What issue are you having and why is the breaker suspect?

Welcome aboard!

Using a multimeter set to read DC volts but the black lead on a good ground and then the red lead on either terminal of the 50 amp breaker to see if you have voltage. If no voltage check the fuse on the starter solenoid. If voltage check for 12V on the B terminal of the backside of the ignition switch.

Thank you for your support! Turns out the engine is a Merc 350 not a 454.

The 50 Amp CB needed replacing. Being over zealous in its removal I mixed up which lead goes which terminal on the circuit breaker.

They are both 8 gauge red wires?? Does it matter which wire goes where on the CB?

One wire should be red and the other red/purple, the red wire goes to terminal 1 or input and the red/purple goes to the other terminal. Red is from the battery and the red/purple is the protected power wire to the engine and helm.

On second thought I don’t think it really matters as it’s either opened or closed.
