Default transducer problem?

Hello all,
Just a new member to the community, what a great site!

I have a 1996 1900SR and having issues with the transducer, I think. When turned on and out of the water, it displays nothing but FT. when in less than 30 feet of water it starts to display the depths, beyond a depth of 30ft it displays nothing. It is a puck type unit in the bilge and it looks like it is virtually impossible to get at (very tight quarters) in order to look closely at it or even trying to replace it? Not sure if it is a transducer or display gauge problem.

Thanks in advance!

Welcome aboard

Sounds like it’s operating correctly in less than 30’ of water which is where you need it to respond. I would just get a chart plotter/fish finder which comes with a transducer and displays depths and more. If you have a newer VHF this will allow you to connect the two so you can use the DSC feature in emergencies. Really a good feature if you boat in tidal waters.

Also remember that the transducer does not read through air - boat must be in the water for it to operate.
