Default Transducer Mounting

I have a 1998 3000SCR with Twin 5.0L Mercruisers, Bravo 2. My current dumb depth finder transducer is Starboard side between Trim tab and Stern Drive. I read a twins recommended spot is CL of boat between Drives.

I have a 6" x 12 Anode CL of boat just above Drain Plug.

I am upgrading and installing a Garmin 8600 Series unit with a GT56 Transducer. I am wondering the best spot to put it?

Any suggestions will be helpful.

What does the manual recommend? I don’t see anything wrong with where the current one is.

I never had good luck with my transducer being near my drives. Granted I have a single drive, but no matter what I did, I would always lose depth after throttling up due to what I assume was turbulence caused by the drive. Ended up putting in a thru hull transducer and happy as a clam since. Just something to consider.

Read the transducers recommendation on cavitation. Most say they need to be 'n' inches from the outdrive or outboard.

Center of boat only makes sense as it's at the keel and the lowest part of the hull. However the garboard plug is there. The logic doesn't make a ton of sense because the skeg of the outdrive is still the lowest part and lower than the keel. So you already have to offset for the difference between the transducer and the bottom of the skeg.

Once you most the transducer to the side of the garboard plug you'll be too close to the outdrive.
