Default Testing a Tachometer

Can anybody tell me how to check connectivity in tachometer?
I need to know where it goes connected to

A tachometer has power 12 V positive and negative connections and sense which should be a gray wire that goes to the negative terminal on the ignition coil. This is actually a pulsed signal and not a solid negative.
