Default Merc 3.0 Engine/Electrial shut down while running

Good Morning all, So I posted a thread a few weeks back a had a bunch of issues taken care of on my 02 1800SR 3.0. Thanks for everyone's input by the way. I had to drain my tank/ rebuild the carb because of a water issue. Also replaced my starter and fuel pump as it was frozen in ice over the winter.

So all this fixed its starts up idles and runs fine, so this is great. BUT.... for some reason while I'm running I completely lose power and it kills my engine. Sometimes I can run it 10-15 min straight with no issue and sometimes I take it a hundred yards and it cuts out. I believe its electrical because all of my gauges and blower shut off too. What boggles my mind more is when it shuts down sometimes my power comes back literally within a couple seconds and I can fire it back up and start going again... . my temp seems to be fine on my gauges. I checked the normal wiring making sure things were tight and clean of any corrosion.

has anyone had an similar issues? thoughts?

Since you are loosing the blower in addition to the engine this eliminates the engine wiring. When checking the battery wiring did you also inspect the negative wires including the one that connect to the rear of the engine? Did you remove them clean with an electrical contact cleaner then reinstall? One last thing is the battery switch may have flaky contacts. Do you have one that has Batt1 and Batt2 positions and if so does the issue happen in either position?

Thanks Mike, The connections I checked, took off and used some sandpaper and reapplied them. I thought that would do the trick but no luck. I didn't mess with my battery switch yet. I have one of those turn key switches, maybe I should replace it? they are about $7 on amazon. I attached a pic below of the one I have.

I’ve heard lots of complaints about that key style, I would replace it with a quality switch from Blue Seas.

Losing power from the batteries should not kill the engine. It should run off the alternator.

You are correct, my bad.

This takes us back to a bad negative connection.

I did cut the power to the battery to try that. It runs off the alternator but it doesn't sound great. Whines pretty good. Any chance that could be starting to fail causing a momentary loss in power?

What is making the noise; the engine, alternator, ...? What voltage is the alternator putting out under this condition?

seems like the alternator is making the sound. Not sure of the voltage but I will check that.
