Default In need of an Alternator

Hey all, I have a 1997 Maxum 2100 SR2. I'm also new to boating but not engines. I have an alternator that is bad (also original) and I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction for a replacement.

It is the regular 5.7 Mercruiser motor from the 1997 model. I am going to pull the old one out this weekend so I will be able to take pictures and send any markings on it if you need more information.

I think right now I am going to try to match mine to one of these visually.

Thanks in advance for any replies!

For parts, I usually start with identifying the OEM part using sites like Mercruiserparts.com. Then google around to see what may be available that matches that OEM number.

Great resource, thank you for pointing it out! If you can spot check me on my logic.

So I am pretty sure this is what I have going through the mercruiserparts.com: https://www.mercruiserparts.com/807652t-alternator

I search that and something like this comes up: dbelectrical.com part

It says "replaces these part numbers" then under Mercruiser shows my part number that came up in mercruiser parts 807652T. So this is a $90 replacement of my $300 alternator. What's the consensus on these cheaper replacement parts? Auto world it's a mixed bag but most are pretty reliable to go non-oem but might need some 'tinkering' to make work. How about in the marine world? Not worth it because it's a lot higher stakes on the water?

Main question overall, should I go OEM or are these other ones worth it.

Safety, reliability, simplicity and cost are my judgements in that order.

Db electric does offer marine parts. I’ve heard mixed reviews from people who have bought from them.

I’m aware of that. Not talking about using automobile parts on a marine application at all.
