Default Ignition Key Not Engaging Start Circuit

1997 2000 SCL.

I put the key in the ignition. Turn key to the right to start. Key does not stop to engage circuit. Key just spins in the ignition. Catching about 50% of the time and getting worse.

I am sure the mechanics of the switch is just worn out and needs to be replaced.

What is broke and needs to be replaced? Part numbers would be huge bonus.

Where can I find a good PDF file on parts list for the boat?

Good online place to buy parts?

New here. First post. Thank you for the help.

Welcome aboard!

Is the entire ignition switch turning or just the cylinder? If the entire switch body the nut on the backside needs to be tightened otherwise you need to replace the switch. These are fairly standard with 3 terminals: batt, ignition and start.

Thank you mmwjr. It is the internal part. Yet, when I hand tightened it, the plastic nut cracked. It is toast...inside and out.

Used these two to find the part:

Same thing happened to me 15 minutes after I took possession of my boat. The key would spin in the ignition like a windup toy.
For a 1998 3700 SCR, the replacement part is a Sierra MP39200. It was a perfect fit. It has screw terminals, but the blade receptacles on the boat's wires fit on without modification.

Thank you. I posted earlier, with links on how I resolved the issue. Was not posted. Had to be reviewed by Admin. Maybe links are not allowed. Sorry about that if I violated policy. Anyway, thank you for the input.

I think you are required to have 5 or more posts before it will allow you to add links.
