Default I need another transducer - suggestions please?

My 2000 2800scr lost its transducer - broke-off because something impacted it. The wire is just dangling there. It was hooked to the factory gauge on the helm and worked fine. My understanding is that it was not the original transducer and that the previous boat owner hooked-it-up and decommissioned the original factory hockey puck style one in the hull.
Questions please: is it possible to just buy another transducer, splice the wires and waterproof them some how? If so, what make would work for the factory gauge on the dash? Wire code?
I wish to make this as simple as possible and to do it during winter layup. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
George

If to do this and not have any headaches afterwards I would install a new transducer and forget about splicing anything. Get the same brand name as your depth finder. Look at the old wire route to put your new one and if this is too much get a professional hired. They really are very simple to install. A good winter or spring project.

Good luck
