Default battery switches/setting for 99 2800 with twin 4.3L

Ok here goes, my 99 2800 has dual batteries and dual switches. I have been reading here on the site about the same set up on others boats but none from the 2800. I did some wire tracing and some deductive testing but i am not sure what is going on.
i used 1 battery and connected it to 1 switch at a time and used a galley light with its switch on. So port switch worked the light in position 1 and both. Disconnected switch 1 and connected switch 2 andvthe light worked only on both and position 2.
im going to assume at this point i dont have a system that 1 battery runs the motors and the other the house but in fact both batteries are being used all the time and my switches should be both on position 1?
Does anyone have this same setup? We plan to stay overnight a lot out on the hook with fridge, radio, lights, and maybe even TV. I dont want to kill both batteries and be stuck.
also, both batteries are starting batteries. Would it be smart to make one a starting and replace the other with a deep cycle?
Thanks in advance.

Sounds like switch 1 provides house power. If this is the case keep switch 2 either off or in position 1 to isolate it from the house when on the hook to prevent it's discharge

Yes that will be my first setup that I try. Put a voltage meter on with the motor running and then not running.

Can you share what your findings were? I'm trying to sort out the same thing right now!

0Gravity, I sure will as I have yet to totally figure it out. I've keep the boat plugged in all winter, had both switches on 1 and had no problems. We launch April 3rd and I'll see how it goes. Will keep ya posted.

Hi Michael,
You might also want to take a look at another thread I'm involved with, when you check yours out see if any of this applies to yours.
