Default Anchor light issues

New owner to this 2800 SCR, I was hooked to shore power but still wanted to test all the lighting on the boat. When I hit the Anchor light switch on the helm, the Anchor light on the bow turned on just like it should. However, when I flipped the switch to turn it off, the light would not turn off. I tried all other helm switches, etc. but could not get that light to turn off. I finally had to crawl up in the anchor compartment and disconnect the wire to the light. Any thoughts on why it would not turn off?

Thank you!

It could be a bad switch. My dash has some extra switches if yours has them try swapping them.

Ok, good call, I'll check that out and see if it is the problem.

Thank you!

First the bow light is a navigation light not and anchor light. When under way the navigation bow light and a stern white light are required to be on. At anchor an all around white light is required. On smaller boats like my 2400 the stern white light and anchor light are the same.

You should have two switches one for navigation and one for anchor lights. As stated the nav light may be internally shorted.

On the 2800, there should be a Red Navigation light toward the bow to port, and a Green Navigation light toward the bow to starboard. There should be a single white all around light is used for both the white nav light when running and anchor light when stopped.

There should be two switches; Anchor and Navigation. When the Nav switch is actuated, it lights both the red green running lights and the white all around light. The anchor switch only actuates the white all around light.

1) I've never seen a white all around light on the bow.

2) Are you sure that the Navigation Lights switch wasn't on?

3) Do you have a radar arch? That is where the all around white light is normally installed.

Could be but if I recall either the title or initial post mentioned Nav light, seems like its been modified. The OP has not clarified what he is referring too.

No anchor well light on a 2800. A cleat and a capped hawse pipe (or a windlass).
