Default Adding Bluetooth Stereo

Hi All,

Just because I can’t use the boat every weekend doesn’t mean I'm not still thinking about making it better for the next time...

I was looking at adding a Bluetooth tuner head unit and I'm wondering if there really is any difference between stereos for cars and stereos for marine. I've read here and there and everyone seems to have a different opinion so I thought I'd ask you guys for your input.

The unit I'm looking at is here http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Sony+-+50W+ ... 8057726915 and it would allow me to pair my iPhone via Bluetooth and play music directly from my phone without having to plug in any wires, etc. I could also use it to play internet radio like Pandora, etc.

So what do you guys think, worth the effort?

I upgraded mine last year with a head unit that would support USB and MP3 via the face plate and I love it. Stick in your flash drive and you are good to go.

I also have a blackberry that supports Bluetooth etc, but I wouldn't want to fiddle around with signal interference, connectivity issues, commercials, dead phones, bla, bla, bla....

Just my 2 cents, I'm all about automotive audio equipment in boats, I've have several, and never had a problem. I also run a DB digital car amplifier and 2 cobalt 10s, all car audio stuff and all working quite well.

the best part is, flash drives DONT SKIP!!

well..there's 2 schools of thoughts about using a car stereo compared to a marine unit....
1) if the boat is large enough and the stereo unit is located in the salon..then a car unit will work ok...not saying the best cuz there is still moisture in the air that usually attacks elex eqpt....so..since it's located below and isn't exposed to sun/salt/air...then it should be ok ..
2) if the unit is located up in the cockpit...then a marine unit should be used due to exposure to sun/salt/air....the circuits aren't sealed enough to protect it from salt and moisture intrusion or spray....

that's my thinking.....if you stick the unit below...the remote should be water proof up in the cockpit....

hope this helps...let us know and take pic's..

I didn’t even know that the ones with a flash drive existed. That’s brilliant and they are so cheap these days. Didn’t think about a remote either. It looks like you can also get Bluetooth adapter for it too.

The Unit is in the salon so I guess I shouldn’t have too much trouble with that either.

Thanks Guys.
