Talking Newbie here in Rhode Island

My husband and I are in the process of buying our first boat. We've had boats before but not a boat like this. We are buying a 1999 Maxum 3000 scr. Offer made and accepted, the surveyor did the out of the water inspection a couple weeks ago and found a leaking hydraulic line. Current owner has had it replaced/fixed. This weekend the surveyor comes back for the "in water inspection" and the sea trial. The boat is finally IN THE WATER!

Can anyone tell me what the passenger capacity is on this boat? I am going to be buying life jackets and I want to make sure I have enough.

Super Duper Excited!

Lynn welcome aboard and congrats on the boat.

There should be a capacity label near the helm but I would think for that boat it would be around 12. If you plan on young folks then you will need PFDs rated for their size.

I've got 7 life jackets on my 3000. I have one of those west Marine 4 packs under my forward berth, and 3 plus a throwable under the helm seat. I don't remember seeing a capacity plate on mine though.

I double checked last night, my 3000 does not have a load plate at the helm. My understanding is above a certain size they are certified in a different way.

Capacity plates are only required for boats under 20 feet and manufactured after Nov. 1, 1971. You don't have a capacity plate because it was not required at the time of manufacture.

I have a 2001 3000 and it is a great boat, you will love it.

On the passenger side front seat that opens up for storage I have my PFD's. I have 3- type lll (ski jackets) 2- type lV (throwables) and 5- type ll. So 10 all together which is more than enough. Just remember it is also important that they are accessible in a moments notice. If children are with you when you boat make sure they are fitted properly.

Enjoy your new boat!

You stuff all your vests in there? I keep my barbeque in there! Much more important than vests. Lol.

Btw, it's not very obvious but the helm seat is adjustable. There is latch under the front of the seat and it slides back and forth. When I bought mine, the previous owner didn't even know that.

I keep my Magna kettle in the dock box. But to each his own! Yes the driver 's seat does slide back and forth. The trick is to get the latch that has all the holes in it to lay down and connect on the point lock so you don't slide back and forth at times when you don't want to slide back and forth.

I was throwing the seat thing out there for the OP, being a new owner.

I like keeping the grill with me because never know when I might use it.

I'm in Pawcatuck, CT on the Pawcatuck River. Where will you be storing her in RI?

She is in Mystic at the moment, but we will be moving her to Warwick very soon. We had the survey and sea trial last weekend and needed to have a little work done before we take ownership.
One of the engines would only get a maximum speed of 3700 rpm's and it was surging. Surveyor thought it might be a fuel problem. Then it wouldn't start again after it was warm.
The other engine had a leaky seawater pump (just dripping) so that is being replaced. I hope its ready this weekend, I can hear the summer ticking away.
