Default Introduction

Hello, everyone!

I'm Dan. I've been a boat owner for over 15 years, but grew up hanging out every summer at a cabin on a lake with ski boats and jet skis. My last boat was a 14' Alumacraft w/20hp Mercury 2-stroke. My current boat is a 2019 Starweld Victory 16 DC w/90hp Suzuki. The future...well that's more difficult to explain.

For a few years now, I've been obsessed with America's Great Loop. I finally got the go-ahead from the first mate, so the planning begins right now. Insuring a loop boat is the major hurdle, so I need to get experience on bigger boats to get over it.

I have my eyes on a 3200 SCR and want to close the deal in the next couple weeks. I'm here to connect with the people who have experience with Maxums, and once I'm an owner, begin sharing my experience with others.

Thank you in advance for your hospitality and insight! I look forward to being an active member of this group.

Dan

Welcome aboard Dan!

If you purchase the boat I would be sure it’s ready for doing the loop. Inspect/replace exhaust, bellows, shift cables, impellers. For just starters. Tune up and belts would be wise as well. Even after doing these keep spares aboard.

You are going to want a bigger boat for the loop... I'd look at trawlers.

Sorry if I wasn't clear. The 3200 is a stepping stone to get where I want to be. In order to get the 42-45 footer I want to do the loop in, the insurance company will need proof that I've owned a boat close to that size. This 3200 has a custom-molded, extended swim platform that makes the LOA about 38'. I plan to run this for at least 5 years before moving up and starting the loop at retirement.

None the less, all the things I mentioned should be checked or replaced as part of normal maintenance.

Right on. I'll add those to my list of important areas to check. Thanks!

Did you check to make sure they'll let you jump from 14' to a 32'??

Jumping from a 32' to a 42' should be ok. I went from a 28' to a 39'.

I got a quote from Progressive where I already have my other boat insured. They didn't say there would be any problems. I'm not financing the boat as I have the cash on hand. I'm sure my next boat will be an entirely different story.

Here is the link to the main thread specifically for the boat I'm looking at. I've shared a bunch of pictures with my observations. Would love some inputs on what you see. Thanks!

Sea trail is a must. Verify what works and what doesn’t and adjust your offer accordingly.
