Cool Hello from the LBC

This week, my wife and I just bought a 2005 1900SR3 in very nice condition.

She grew up with her father's boat of similar size, a 1975 Cobalt that we had up until a year ago. It was too old to go in seawater any more, so it only got used 3 times a year, when we could tow it to a lake.

We are looking forward to actually being able to use our new vessel here in Long Beach on a regular basis.

My first question for the forum is: Does anyone have a good online source to order replacements for the little bits and parts that break or wear out on their Maxum? Things like plastic clips, fasteners, vinyl upholstery patches, cup holder inserts, stuff like that?

Welcome, try West Marine, most parts are third party after market supplied to Maxum/Bayliner

Thanks. We have a West Marine here in Long Beach. It looks like they have quite a few of the things I'm looking for.

Unhappy First sea test

So we tried a quick run around the bay two weeks ago, about a week after we picked the boat up from the seller. It started up great, ran great, sounded very good, nice power, comfortable seats. All was good until we were on our way back to the launch ramp and it started stalling and dying when put in idle. Then it was super hard to restart the engine each time. Turns out the water cooled manifold cracked at some point while we were running around. Sea water got in the cylinders and caused some damage.

It sounds like it's going to be a while before the second time we get to take it out.

What engine do you have? Did you get the water out of the cylinders? Perform a compression test to see if valves or rings are leaking.

This is the Mercruiser 4.3 MPI engine. 220 HP, I think.
I called a mechanic to take a look, and he sprayed some WD40 in the cylinders and cranked them a few times. A compression test showed that a couple cylinders had lost some pressure, but I'm not sure what the leaks are from.

WD40 washes oil off the cylinder walls so that not my recommendation for this. As long as the cylinders are within 10% of each other and none are below 140 psi you should be ok. A leak down test will tell you if it’s rings, intake or exhaust valve.

Thanks. Took 2 months to get the new manifolds and risers in from all over the country. They are in and it runs okay now. Haven’t done a compression test to see if the damage is real bad yet. But I can get out on the water!
