Default Hello everyone, new owners of 2400 SCR here

Hi, just wanted to say hello to you all and thank you for providing such platform to share ideas, opinions and knowledge. Recently purchased a 1993 Model 2400 SCR and trying to learn the boat as well as fix few minor issues. Not new to boating but certainly new to Maxum boats. Me and my family live in the UK for the time being.

Regards

Congratulations, nice looking boat. Curious what are the last two digits of the HIN as I didn’t think this model came out till 1994. BTY I have a 1997.

It says 94 on the title deeds. Does that mean it's a 94 model?

You can verify by looking at the actual HIN on the hull. It will be low on the transom on the Starboard side. The 2400 SCR was available in 1994, but not in that color scheme. A 1994 would have had a grey stripe. That vessel could have been repainted.

I know for fact that it was repainted in this colour, checked my HIN and ends in 94.

Yup it’s a 1994, a year newer that you thought

Finally had the chance to go through all files and found a folder with previous pictures. It had a green belt with silver lines before. Need to replace the temp sender and I need to replace the temp sender and replace the thermostat whilst at it.

What makes you think the temp sender is bad? There is a sender for the helm gauge and a temp switch for the alarm, both are on the thermostat housing across from each other.

Temperature gauge doesn't read anything. I jumped the cable from sender to the chassis and gauge works ok so I think it's the bad sender but open to any opinions and I certainly don't know how to test the alarm from the other sender from the thermostat housing

Sounds like you tested it correctly. The alarm switch is normally open and closes around 200F.

Hmm puzzled. Took the thermostat housing off to replace the thermostat. There is no thermostat inside ! No check balls either. Why would that be ? I have ordered new sleeve thermostat check balls and audio alarm. But not sure why all missing?

Newer 4 hose housing don’t have the check balls. Do you have separate hoses going to the risers? If not no check balls.

New thermostat kit came with paper gaskets. Do I also add silicone gasket to the combination of gaskets came with the kit are good enough to create a seal?

By the way apologies if this is the wrong thread and not if it needs to be moved on to a different place on the forum.

Thanks

I typically use permitex non Harding on these but any gasket sealer will work. If the housing surfaces are smooth nothing should be needed but after this many years I would use a sealant.

Bits and bobs turned up but the check balls must have shrunk? Did i order the wrong ones? I didn't know there are different length ones. Part number or a ref number ?
