When the IAC on my 5.7 MPI failed the engine...

When the IAC on my 5.7 MPI failed the engine would not start with the throttle lever in neutral. If I advanced the throttle (without the drive in gear) I could get it to start, but it wouldn't idle....

CnC, when you turn the key to the Run position, before turning it to the Start position, do you hear the fuel pump run? The FP should run for a few seconds then stop.
