Correct me if I'm wrong but having the switch on...
Correct me if I'm wrong but having the switch on Both/1+2 does not result in 24V IF the batteries are wired in parallel.

I believe switch location from the factory...
I believe switch location from the factory probably has more to do with cost/time savings than anything else. Far easier and less expensive to locate the switch closer to the batteries and cables...
