In hulls work fine as long as they are mounted firmly to the hull Where there are no viols in the material. I run an Airmar P79 for my legacy depth sounder mounted a few inches away from the factory...

Most transducers (if fitted) would be in the ER as Mike mentioned.
In dash readout was a some version of the Standard Horizon D41. Maxum used separate switches...
