The new starter will come with new bolts, verify they are the correct length as many have bolts that bottom out prior to the starter being tight to the engine and the bolts break off over time this...

Crows foot socket on a 1/2 breaker bar possibly. Remember the bolts are upside down so you turn from front to back of the boat to loosen.

Some 3.0's also has a bracket at the front of the start to engine block that must be removed. Have you tried using a ratcheting closed wrench? The big tool manufactures make them including craftsman.
