Neutral safety switch, safety lanyard, nor shift interrupt have anything to do with the alarm nor is there wiring close to short out.

Alarm is either low gear lube, low oil pressure, or hot engine.

If the t-stat was bad you helm gauge would be reading high as well, is it?

One thing at a time get a handheld IR sensor and get some reading before guessing

Not uncommon for one side to be hotter than the other. I think it is due to the distribution of the t-stat housing not being equal.

Bad compression. On a boat I boat it was zero psi as the valve did not seal at all.

Burning water raises exhaust temps so the exhaust valve or seat fails.

Water in the oil or a tuliped exhaust valve (melted seat) are the common signs of water ingestion from leaky exhaust.

They are referring to the y-pipe passages being left open, if the top of the pipe is below the water line water...

Ok for correctness a lot of folks call the elbow a riser but the riser is really that spacer you mentioned.

Elbow typically fails before the manifold, cracks form where the raw water is injected...
