I believe shrew is refering to the filter/screen...

I believe shrew is refering to the filter/screen on the gas pick-up tube inside the gas tank. There could be debrie in the tank that gets sucked into the filter starving the engine. Once engine dies...

2001 2800 SCR, what engine(s)? Yep OP switch is first thing that comes to my mind. Do you have an electric fuel pump? If not then no OP switch.

Carb or fuel injection?
