Mine has the flat spots inthe arms hole but I just pulled it straingt up no issues. Also Mine has a washer and crown nuts

Dd this earlier this year on my 1997 2400SCR. I used a battery terminal puller. I also sprayed the joint with a little PB blaster.
Remove nuts off of both arms and spray. Let sit for a few minutes...
