Hot chartplotter

I recently installed a new Lowrance HDS 7 Gen 2 touch chartplotter. After firing it up, the touch screen became hot to the touch and stayed hot. Does this sound unusual.

Have not heard of anyone else mention this. What does the place you bought it from say. Also have you googled to see if others are have the same temps. Lastly contact Lorance as they have good support.

I have a Garmin and it is also hot to touch. Note the power rating on the back. This energy must go some where.

I wired it to an accessory switch, which cured the unit from getting hot. Now I have another problem. The unit reboots when at idle. Runs fine with the engines turned off and seems to run good with throttle up. ???????
I'm going to re-wire it again directly to the battery. Hopefully that will cure all ills.

Sounds like it's dropping out due to low voltage, connections may have corrosion in the fuse box. Common on factory boats as these use low end parts.
