Default Windlass problem

Hello all This is my first post on this site, Just bought a 2008 2700 SE my second Maxum and we think it's great. I'm having a problem with the windlass, when it switches from chain to rope when raising it wants to pile up and jamb the winch, my dealer says the rope will soften with use and stop piling up. The trouble seems to be in the splice, any ideas??

well...we don't have a whole heckuva lot of info...what size windlass do you have...I think mine is the lewmars 700......with that said.....I have if I remember right a 5/8 link chain and supposedly the same size rode....so...I'd check to make sure yours is first the right size rode and chain....mine has never bound at the capstand...so..I'm assuming that either you have the wrong size or the clutch is slipping..might check the clutch to make sure your windlass is adjusted properly....but I'm only guessing at this point...

tell us about yourself some..where your located and all...

oh...welcome to the zoo...

Thanks Seapuppy I'll check the size of the rode to make sure it is the proper one for that windlass, the clutch seems to be fine. I live in the upper Ottawa valley and do about half of our boating on the Ottawa river, the rest of the time we trailer to Georgian Bay or the Trent Severn waterway or the St Lawrence river or some of the bigger area lakes. All of these areas are within a 2 or 3 hour tow from home, really lucky to have that much great boating that close. Still gotta work for a living though so most of the trips are on the weekends.

Hi Bmax
We have bought a 2008 2500SE and have a similar problem. At first our clutch was slipping so I tightened it up with the wrench handle and that fixed that. When pulling the anchor it does pile up on the rope splice and seams to be worse if it was not wet. So I make sure to have it in the water and it does help, If not I work the windlass back and forth till it goes.

Welcome

Paul
