Default transducer placement

I have been fighting with my in-hull mounted transducer and am ready to give up and mount it on the outside. Does anyone have pics of where they placed the transducer on their hull? Pics of any hull would be helpful but the 1800mx would be even better.

Also, when I run the cable, I think I want to drill the hole straight up where the swim deck goes over the drive. Has anyone done this with negative results?

Thanks.

Tom
first off....there are 2 ways to mount the xdcr....one is to mount it on the transome..dril a hole large enough to route the wire thru the hole your going to drill as high on the transome as possible of course mounting the xdcr to the bottom of the transome according to instructions....then seal the hole with 4200 sealant.........the other is to epoxy it just fwd of the engine center line of the boat....that will get you a clear picture of the bottom...

hope this helps...

What I had done was similar to option 2 except that I epoxied a PVC ring to the hull and filled it with mineral oil. It worked great except that the epoxy failed and the ring is no longer sealed. The epoxy I used was old so perhaps I need a new batch to try again. I'm not in a big rush to epoxy the transducer to the hull in case for some reason it needs to be replaced.

then I'd use some 4200 silicone sealant......that should last about forever....just let it set up for 48 hrs..
