Default Trailering a 3200

Anyone do it or smart on big boat trailers? I'm currently paying $224 a month to store my 3200 SCR on blocks and they said $320 for a round trip on the travel lift...
If I had a trailer, I can store it on the trailer for $25 a month in a lot across the street from the ramp.
Do I need a 32' boat trailer just for the boat to sit on 4 months a year, no real road travel? Is there a standard safety margin in the weight capacities of trailers? Can I use a slightly smaller trailer?
Just trying to look more long term, since I don't like the boat yard and if I get a trailer for $2000 or less, it pays for itself in two years.

That is the 20 dollar question ! Can I buy a trailer cheap enough that it will pay it's self off in so many years. I tried it for 4 years and it wasn't worth it with my 3000. I didn't have a big enough truck to pull all this and didn't want to spend it.

First you have to find the trailer. A used 18,000 lbs trailer doesn't show up very offen and if it does they are not cheap. That will be your bottom line... how much are you going spend? Do the math what works for you. As far as going on the cheap for a trailer don't let be something you just throw money at but buy a good reliable one.

I would go to Craigslist straight to Florida and either Tampa Bay or Miami area to find a trailer. Lots and lots.

Good luck

Roger

18,000 pounds?! I thought the boat was listed at 11,000 empty/dry...
And truck isn't a problem- I have enough friends...

Add gas and fluids I would say you are close to 14000 lbs. My 3000 is 12500 lbs.

You will find out that that either you will see either a 10000 lbs or 18000 lbs and nothing inbetween.

If I recall the 3200 is close to 35' you will need the right length trailer to support the boat and tongue long enough to allow to maneuver it, in other words no under sizing.

At a minimum a 3/4 ton truck is required.

Jesse needs to chime in as he tows his.

Appears he does not plan to tow it. At worst an undersized trailer that is used a couple times a year could fail but not catastrophic enough to cause damage. I'd start looking around in the storage yards. Plenty of people have boats in the water and trailers not being used.

Need better definition of undersized, if too short it will not properly support the boat and a hook in the hull can for at the rear due to the engine weight. Tongue length is required to maneuver.

If just the suspension is undersized and not trailering far it may work but wear out prematurely.

Well I saw a 27 and a 29 foot trailer for sale locally... Prices aren't really ideal for being shorter though. I can keep looking till this coming fall.
I do want a second heat exchanger ASAP though...!

I had my 3200 hauled from Maryland to New York on a hydraulic trailer which lowered it just enough to pass under most bridges. Consider the height when up on a trailer as well, with the radar arch, the 3200 is pretty high from road surface to most top point.

Yeah, my boat was brought down to me about 180 miles on a hydraulic trailer.
I'm not worried about the height, just a place to set it in the winter...

He is only moving it across the street.

"I can store it on the trailer for $25 a month in a lot across the street from the ramp."

Yes! Maybe 1/2 mile of travel at most.
