Default TKS info

Since thetopic of TKS has come a few times lately I have been loking around found this site which give details on theory of operation on page 1C-2 as well as troubleshooting and good pictures of the internals.

After reading how the TKS operates,i can honestly say its a false advertising for mercruiser to call it a TKS system.

I guess that depends on you definition of TKS (turn key starting)

It does allow the engine to be started by the turn of the key without pumping the throttle to set the choke and prime the engine as required by a standard carb.

Additionally instead of limiting the amount of air flow as a choke plate does it inject an air fuel mixture under the throttle plate to richen the mixture.
This is closer to how an EFI accounts for a cold engine.

Not sure what else you were expecting the system to do.

Ok what they are discussing is an result of the carbs bowl going dry. This can happen because of evaporation from the hot enviroment or because of a lack or bad antisphine valve on the gas tank wre th engine supply line connects.

i have the same issue with my choke type carb. trick is to crank the engine so th fuel pump can refill the bowl. Then proceed with normal starting, i.e. pump the throttle for choke carb or just turn the key for TKS
