Due to crowds, weather and travel plans I have not had the cruiser out since mid May. I had nothing going on the last few days and the Girlfriend is out of town so l packed a bag, grabbed the killer Chiweenie and headed for the lake.

Spent the first day knocking off a couple punch list items in a transient slip and then headed out on the lake early the next morning.

Cruiser is running like a fine watch and I got lucky to find one of my favorite beaches unoccupied. This beach is a favorite due to a 400' wall on the west side that provides shade ( a game changer this time of year) starting around 2:00.

Spent the day putzing around on the boat and hiking with the Chiweenie. Grilled up a steak and corn dinner and had a couple Scotches.

Next morning I returned to the marina and reserved a slip starting the weekend after Labor Day. Put the cruiser back in storage and headed home.

Everything is ready for our season to begin..... We typically do 4 nights every other week until it gets real cold in Nov then we play it by ear and put it back in storage until about March or April depending on the winter. We still may use it after that but not worth paying for a slip in case we don't.

The last week in Sept I have friends (12) coming over from Hawaii to spend a week on the lake in a 75' houseboat. That's going to be a killer week I can tell !!!

One little issue. My Anchor light stopped working. I never use it for anchoring but do use it for the time in the winter when it gets dark early and I need light for the grill. I think it may be a bad connection so I brought it home to clean it up and replace the bulb.

Can you tell I am excited for the season to begin

Out of curiosity. What is 'real cold'? What would keep you from a weekend on the water??

For me it's pretty low but the Girlfriend does not tolerate the cold as well. If the daytime temps don't get much above the mid 50's and the weather is damp or windy she just hides in the cabin all day reading. We play it by ear but have spent Thanks Giving on the lake a few times with friends.

Thought I would share this.. Sent from a buddy of mine from the north end of the lake. I see fighter jets on the deck a lot since they use the area for training but have never see Special Ops Chinooks.

I honestly had no idea it got that cool. Then again, after looking it up, I also didn't realize the elevation was so high 3,652. That is 3x the elevation of Lake Mead.

So you really have 2 short seasons in Spring and Fall?

No, not really. You can boat pretty much all year on Powell. We just avoid the summer months due to the weather and all the yahoos with wake boats.

We'll go up in the summer if we have friends that are going to be on the lake but most of our boating friends wait for the crowds to leave to enjoy the lake as well.
