Default Safe Depth needed for my boat

I own a 2000 Maxum 2300 SC and live near fort Bragg, nc. I would like to know if anyone knows the depth needed to safely take my boat out and any good fishing places near me for my boat as well.

Thanks in advance

I would think the draft of your boat with the drive all the way down is 3.5 feet from the water line. So 4 feet should be safe or with the drive trimmed up about 3 feet.

I don't like there to be less than 1 ft. of draft below the outdrive. A bottom can easily vary 6", so running with 6" inches could easily have you spinning the prop(s) into mud sand, a log whatever that is sitting on the bottom.

Set you alarm with the fact in mind that it take a second or two to react, and a lone stump or rock on the bottom will NOT always show up...

My draft is 3.5 Ft with the drive down, the alarm is set for 8 feet, gives me time to think a bit rather than ding a prop..

I am also simply not that experienced as a boater only been out there for 5 years going into my 6th so I play it safe

It's also worth mentioning that if you are running by the depth sounder, the transducer is located in the stern, only 1-3 ft in front of the outdrive. This gives you almost no reaction time. Either the keel forward is already into it, or the drive is about 1-3 seconds away from hitting it by the time the gauge indicates a problem.

I agree with the other folks post. My initial response was thinking you were asking how shallow you can motor slowly around to get to a fishing spot.

Maybe he's asking advice for a specific lake? As in when is the lake safe, and where to go?

Yea, he needs to reply before anything else can be said.

I would like to know what the safest depth is to go slowly to a fishing spot. I would also like to know any specific lakes in North Carolina such as Shearon Harris Lake that I can fish and have fun tubing.

Good point about the sensor being next to the outdrive. Never thought of that!

But thanks for the replies.
