Rebuilt long block or Used Eng 4.3

I am thinking New. I can get a Long block for around $1500, or Budget Boats in Chesapeake VA has a complete used 4.3 for $2199.

Asking what the consensus is. but I am thinking the best bang for my bucks is rebuilt. I still don't know what caused the eng to lockup, most likely a cracked exhaust manifold ..... just a guess.

One thing to consider is the value of the boat, I looked it up and I think it was $4K I only paid omg should I tell...lol Ok $500.00 (boat, motor and trailer) but the engine is frozen. and the boat is in GREAT shape except for the paint is faded and Bottom paint need's redone. soooooo I don't want to spend more that the boat is worth.

carbed or mpi?...... it's a Carbed motor now. but would love to put in mpi!

I wish I had a work shop to rebuild it myself. I used to rebuild detroit diesels, was a Helicopter Mech for 20 years, I can do it, just don't have the space

I'd go with MM....they have a pretty good rep and produce custom engines if you like...specifying a different cam or a hotter set up is no big deal for them.....might give them a call and see what the cost would be.....

good deal on the boat...the outer parts can be sanded down and regelcoated...(buddy of mine did that to his 32..looked gorgeous after he did all the work..then the puke sold it).....well...that's my .02cents....

I think it would depend on now many hours are on the used engine, how complete it is, and if it comes with any sort of guarantee.

If you went with the rebuilt long block you could easily spend the difference between it and the used engine if you have to buy manifolds and risers. Because it sat for so long you'd also have to inspect the oil pan for rust through. Granted, OP's are not terribly expensive but everything adds up. I guess you'd have to inspect the OP on the used engine too.
