Random Poll - Sport Yacht or Sedan Bridge/CPMY - Maxum Boat Owners Club

Hi Folks,

Dreaming of the next boat upgrade in 4 or 5 years, and hypothetically speaking if you were shooting for around $150k worth of boat, would you rather have:

A - Newer-used 34' to 40' Express Cruiser style like the 3500SY or Bayliner 340

B - slightly older Sedan Bridge / CPMY like the Bayliner 4087 or Maxum 4600 SCB

C- Neither, pay for kids college and keep the 2400 SE

guess I win!!...ok...I'm biassed....we have been looking at larger boats for about 6 yrs....we moved up from a bay 2455....that boat beat us to death in rough water...then traded it for a 2700scr engineering boat...one of the best boats we'd ever seen...had everything..went anywhere here in the pacnorwest...we were confident in this boat..but it was getting harder to get in and out of the midberth...

.....so...we started looking at used searays...tiara's....maxum's....trawlers...sport cruisers....flybridge...sunbridge...we were keeping our minds open...with that came a call from Mac at searay here in bellingham wa....our local olympic boats store crashed and went under...he got a 340 for a steal.....so...we jumped on it....boy are we glad we did....this boat is nothing short of spectacular.....I know I've said it before but there is nothing like having this large a boat with the capability to cruise at 30-35mph all day long...we can get into the san juan islands from everett in 2.5 hrs......normally on a good day we'd take 3-3.5 hrs to get there....so...I voted for the 340 with big a$$ed engines and b3 drives.....but...that's just me...

2 kids + dog, a little slower but lots of space and amenities. maybe even room for guests.

For us it would mean changing from trailer boating and having the choice of salt water or fresh, to just salt water and being stuck at a marina. If that was our decision then we would probably go for the 340 Sea Ray Sundancer or alike.

don't you all not forgetting one thing......

always buy what you can pay out off your own saving account......then it's yours.....and nobody comes knocking at your door with the monthly paying check..(the bank)

For me it would depend where I was living at the time. I can't see me being content with the sedan bridge on one of my local lakes but if I could moor it on the ocean, I think I would probably use it a lot more. One of my fantasies is to start a trip somewhere on the east coast and go down the ICW around the keys, back in to the gulf then as far up the Mississippi as I could go. Do they have a canal into the Great Lakes? Then I could continue and end up back on the east coast...

If I were just staying on the lake, I think a 30' twin screw would suit me fine. If I was the type of guy to trailer, I think I'd also be happy with a 26'. Hell, I'm happy with what I have if only the weather would cooperate and head back north!

yep..there are several locks that you have to use before you get to the GL's but it's called the great american loop....I've known of a few people that have done it....definitely and adventure of a lifetime.....
you can go to thier website...greatamericanloop.com I think...or something like that..there is a whole bunch of folks that have done it...

Tend to agree with Cymru - would depend on where I was living. Also, agree with Stressleave about having to change from trailering. Right now my 1900 is about as big as I'd want for taking laps around the local lakes. But, since we are dreaming - I'd go for a nice condo in a marina on the so cal coast, with a dock out my back door and a yacht like SP's at the dock - wait - maybe the next size up from SP's LOL. j/k

The ability to trailer the boat is one of the reasons we went with the 2400 as our first boat, but I think in a couple of years I'll be ready to keep it in the water in Everett. For SeaFair on Lake Washington I can always go through the locks

SP - Do you use a generator or inverter for electricity when away from the dock?

Max...we have a genny...it's a kohler 5 or 6 kva genny......but so far we haven't put alot of time on the new genny..
have you been out in the sound yet??...we're thinkin of our first cruise is gonna be to pleasant harbor...great place if you've never been there...
