definitely a new raw water impeller..thermostat....check risers and exhaust manifolds....change drive oil and engine oil.....belts...all of them....get a plastic hammer and gently tap the hull looking for soft spots on the hull...wax the snot out of it....I'd also check the trailer brakes to make sure their working properly.........
check all trailer lights for operation.....and finally...take an approved boating safety course if you haven't already done so..
best advice...never approach the dock faster than your willing to crash into it.....

good luck with the new toy and come back here often...

As seapuppy said - get in otuch with the RYA and do a powerboat drivers course. Plas Menai do some good approved ones over near Bangor, North Wales. not massively pricey and many insurers will give a very fair discount to drivers with qualifications. You'll learn alot also

Get the boat to a reputable Mercruiser service centre and drop a few hundred quid on getting it thoroughly checked over and de-winterised.

where abouts do you boat? I can recommend a decent service centre. I'm also friendly with several of the Maxum dealers (through work) so can point you in the right direction.

Thanks for the advice. The boat was serviced in 06 and has been out only 3 times since, I will do the impeller trailer barings etc and oil filter so start off with.
I have been rya qualified for years but any info on insurance companies would be great.
Im planning on going out from Portsmouth/Hayling Island mainly.

Remember Fuel Filter too.. possibly even more important than the oil filter as if its 2 years old now it'll be starting to fall apart :P

I believe the RYA have a list of insurance companies that give discounts - call them or have a scout round on their website
