Default Maxum Emblem removal

Hello Maxum Owners--I found your site the other day and am impressed with all the useful and helpful info offered. We're new to Maxum but not to boating --have been boating for 39 years. (first boat was a 14' alumacraft fishing boat w/9.5 Johnson--still have it!) We purchased the 2300SR to trailer around Michigan. For the past 15 years we've mainly cruised around Lake Michigan. Here's my question...I need to replace a couple of the "MAXUM" plastic letters. I've received the letters and am wondering what the best way to remove the old letters? Any ideas or thoughts would be appreciated!
Thanks!

using a heat gun or hair dryer....heat them up and carefully use a putty knife around it to pry them up.....for safety of the glass....use some of that blue masking tape to protect the fiberglass around then...

welcome to the zoo!!..glad you found us...hopefully you'll be able to help us out!!..

Light weight fishing line would also work well. use it like a rope saw, pulling back and forth behind the letters, should cut through the adhesive.

Thanks SP and Flying Maxum for the quick reply! I was thinking of the heat gun route but the fishing line "rope saw" dounds like a clever solution....maybe a combination. Thanks again.

After 12 years the foam tape will be very hard. I recently removed all of my lettering, it was a real pain. The best I found was the putty knife, and yes, mask off what you don't want damaged.

Once mine were off and the entire boat wet sanded and polished, I am hard-pressed to put anything back at all. It just looks too good!

Thanks Mad Max! You're right about the foam tape. On the letter that's damaged, the black foam tape is like a rock. I'll see what happens. If it's more than a 2 beer job I'll probably put it off until winter. Summer time is too short in Michigan. Checked your gallery. Your boat looks great! I see what you mean about putting the letters back on. Great to see a family having fun on the water too!

Letters are on and they look great!...went out to tinker with the boat last night and while I was working inside, my wonderful wife took the fishline, plastic putty knife, and "Goo Gone" and had the letters off in an hour. She hasn't presented me with the bill yet...Thanks for the tips!

I'd say she is a definite keeper then. Can she back it up to the launch?

Clone her, LOL!

She's definately a keeper! There are, however, a few areas that she'd rather not get into... One has to do with fish hooks, and another is backing or driving the rig away from the launch. We tried that about 15 years ago, and the facility was missing part of their guard rail and the trailer was out a fender & tire. Whoops!, oh well. Gazen was wondering how they look...I ordered the letters from a dealer in Michigan, they are the original replacement raised gold 3-D letters directly from US Marine. ($14.95 each) Looks like new. I'll try to get a picture for you. I may do the other side now. Let me rephrase that..I'll see if my wife wants to do the other side now. I thought they looked pretty good, but now they look a little worn compared to the new ones.

Default Maxum letters

MichMax
I need to replace the "U" letter on one side of my boat. Can you give me some information as to where you got your replacement letters from. I've looked everywhere.
Thanks.

Elks, I used a Maxum dealer here in Michigan.

Wilson Marine, Brighton, MI 517-546-3774 (Ask for Karen)

She was very helpful, as I had the old part # (55437) from Maxum's web site. They took the order over the phone and the letters were drop shipped to me directly from US marine. Took less than a week. The part # on my receipt for the letter "U" is 1713026. Looks like it was $15.40 (I thought it was $14.95)...just like gas, wait a week and it'll be more...Hope this helps.

Elks, glad to hear they could help you out! People need to know it's a MAXUM not a MAX M...
