Default Max hp for 1991 maxum 1700 outboard?

First post so here it goes. I am about to buy a 1991 bowrider but the original engine has been removed. In order to get a new engine I would need to know the max engine weight and hp. Any help, or if you could point me in the right direction I would be greatful

Really can't help with your question other than to check your capacity plate and / or run your hull ID number by maxum / Brunswick. Just wanted to say welcome and good luck with the purchase.

first off...welcome to the zoo....not really familiar with this model ...from what I've seen though on boats about that size ...the engine size for an outboard ran from about 75 hp to 125hp.....which is a pretty good sized ob engine for that small of a boat....as stated above...if your dead set on getting this one...get the HIN number on the stbd stern and run it thru US MARINE ...give them a call and they can tell you what engine actually came with it at time of original sale.....

but on the brighter side....there are other boats out there right now and it's a serious buyers market.....boats aren't moving and when they do..they can be had for a great price......

please stop back and let us know what you find..

Thanks for all your help guys. I will probably chance a 100hp 2 stroke. However the guy I am buying the boat off the 90hp 4 stroke was too heavy. This seems a bit odd to me but who knows. I know the 94 models can take up to 120hp. At the end of the day I think these boats will be (hopefully) over engineered so will be able to cope with the stresses and strains. When it is all done I will put a picture of it up sure

He might right BS, the 4 stroke may indeed be too heavy, but you'd do well to compare the weights of the original Force 90 against that of a newer 100 HP 2 stroke and newer 100 HP 4 stroke. Technology marches on so the newer engines might be lighter than an older one.

You might also expand your search to include same size/type Sea Ray's and Bayliners - as all three are made by the same company. There may also be a sticker at the helm that states max HP rating.
