Default Looking into buying a 2004, 24', Maxum, 2400 SE

Hey guys, I'm new to boating and looking into buying one. I found a very nice and clean 2004, 24', Maxum 2400 SE, 5.0 mercury with 275 hours for $13,500. My concerns are maxum company is no longer in business. Will this be an issue in finding replacement parts? Does this sound like a good deal?

Welcome aboard

Maxum made the hull, all other components are Mercruiser, Windline, Perko, ... just like any other boat.

I would not let this shy you away.

Welcome aboard
If you like the boat, buy it. And if you need anything we can direct you where you can get them.
Good luck.

Welcome aboard Ltrindade!!

As said, the parts are all 3rd party most are easily replaceable. Engines and outdrive parts are readily available.

Thanks guys. With it being a 2004 with a 5.0 Mercruiser, 275 hours shouldn't the manifolds and risers have been changed? I'm going tomorrow to meet with the broker.

Where do I go to order a swimming platform?

For a 14 year old boat that’s very low hours so I doubt the exhaust was replaced.

Try swim platforms.com

Hi,
Ive got a similar 2004 SD with the same engine and outboard. As long as its been well cared for you shouldnt have any problems. Parts are readily available if something needs replacing. There are plenty of manuals to help troubleshoot. I maintain my own and so far, so good.

Was this in fresh or salt water? I see a little rust around the flange of the coolant hoses in the photo. Pull the hoses and see what the metal looks like.

Thanks for the response. I believe it was in salt water. They have it now in a marina where the boats are taken out of the water with a crane after they use it no boat slips. Supposedly they they didn't use it last year and used last Sunday without a problem.

Here's a picture of the outdrive see what you guys think.

I don't see any glaring issues, the main area of concern is where the forward prop meets the aluminum housing as this is where the corrosion occurs due to dissimilar metals.

Thanks again. I went and checked the boat out yesterday again. Supposedly the manifolds and riser where changed out 2 years ago. The one other issue I'm concerned about is the corrosion coming off the coolant hose that homegrown brought up. Obviously i will get surveyor to check it out if I decide to go forward on buying this boat.

That is a raw water cooled engine in saltwater. That 'manifold' piece is leaking seawater and rust all over the front of the engine and pulleys. That piece will more than likely need to be replaced. How many years has that raw water cooled engine been run in saltwater?

Hopefully, they've been flushing the drive and engine with freshwater each time they pull the boat.

It's been run in salt water. But the boat has been in a marina that uses a crane and takes the boats out of the water every time after using it. Sorry again I'm new to boating so I don't know as much as you guys. Does that look like a major fix? I would have the owners fix it before I would ever buy it.

What Homegrown suggested is to remove the fat circulating hose from the t-stat housing and inspect inside to see how bad it looks.
