Default Horn

Good afternoon all, I need to replace my dying horn on my 3200scr. I bought the one from West Marine and it lasted all of three days of which I only used it five times not sure what to use, any input would be great. Thanks.

On my 01 3000 I went from the black plastic horn to a single horn trumpet design. Not the electrical wizard I wanted to do the double horn but it wouldn't work and not wanting to rewire the whole darn thing I bought a single trumpet from overtons aND ithe works great. Just look at the decibels rating, most are around 112 db and go from there.

Worst Marine.... if it is not on sale you are paying too much. Don't know why your horn quit working but if you don't succeed the first time try it again!

They did take it back with no problems, I'm just stuck now trying to figure out what kind of horn to buy. I don't want to make Swiss cheese out of my arch buying horns that don't last. Just didn't know if anybody has replaced theirs and what they had used. I bought a single trumpet one last year for my other boat and it died within a year.

I used starboard to mount the horn on top of the arch. Cut two pieces the size of the base of the horn and glued them together with 4200. Filled the hole where the wire came out with a good caulk and that raised the horn off the canvas top. No holes showing at all.

Thanks Roger, that's a great idea how has the horn held up for you so far, the last single trumpet I bought only lasted about a year but once again it was from West Marine.

Hello Pen the horn should be mounted in the forward port bow, look for an oval with ribs. Have you checked that the fuse for the horn under the helm is good?

Pen if you have a 3000 scr the horn is on top of the arch. There is a black plastic cover and underneath is the horn.

The horn is dead center of the arch in front of the anchor light, for some reason I can't up load the picture.

Timbo. ...there are companies that makes railroad engine air horns for marine use. I sure if you Google this you find them.

There are very loud and you might get shot at☺big bucks too. $$$

To each their own....

Thanks Roger I don't want to piss anyone off was just thinking of an alternative to the electric horns that I've had problems with. How long have you had your trumpet for and what is the manufacturer. I'm just getting tired of changing horns every year.

Keep in mind, the tone is intended to indicate the size of the vessel as well and there are some requirements around this. You don't really want to be installing a horn so loud or deep you're mistaken for a ferry or other large commercial vessel (just for fun).
