Default holding tank issue and overboard black water discharge

I recently purchased a 97 Maxum Cruiser.

I am a bit confused on the holding tank toilet and over board discharge setup. At present when I pump the wet/Dry pump the liquid in the bowel goes directly over board! Would someone tell me how to configure the system to discharge into the holding tank. Then How does one empty the holding tank?

Any Help would be appreciated

mike schubert welcome aboard

Check in the engine compartment for a Y-valve in the waste line prior to the holding tank. If it has one it may be in the wrong position. If not someone has by-passed the tank and you will need to reconfigure the waste hose.

To empty the holding tank you use the waste clean out located on the rear of the boat, probably starboard (right) side. Most marinas will have a pump-out station. It is a big vacumn system that suck the stuff out of the tank.

Pumping overboard without using the macerator sounds funky. Do you have a macerator?

Typically when you pump the toilet it goes into the holding tank an then you can use the macerator to discharge the waste overboard or pump it out at a pump out station.

Maybe call the person you purchased it from to see why this is occurring.

Some offshore sailboats are a 'Direct Deposit' system. Where did your boat come from? Where are you located now? (Country/State if fine). If you boat on inland waters in the US, they're more than likely going to have to lock that Y in the in the 'holding tank' position. If it were me, I would get rid of the Y and run an outbound line from the bottom fittings of the holding tank to an electric macerator, then from the macerator to the through hull discharge.

Yes I do have a macerator, the boat is located on pacific coast. Seems strange that Y valve would be in the engine compartment, I looked for a valve but could not find one on the Holding tank. Does any have a "97" 24 ft Curiser - where is your Y valve for Black water? Also we have grey water to deal with, I am told that also can be directed to the grey water tank VS just draining over the side. Can anyone comment?

I have a 97' 2400 scr. My head is directly plumbed to the holding tank and no overboard discharge option. My gray water drains directly overboard.

Pictures of you system would help identify where potential issue is.

You need to fix this as it is illegal... And not very nice for your neighbors when on the hook.

Which the grey water or teh black water? Discharging grey water is only illegal in inland bodies of water. We discharge grey water overboard on the ocean.
