well..it's acceptable...but there's more too it than just an oil change and impeller....
1) have you taken a boat safety course yet.
2)got fuel
3)checked weather and wind/waves
4) did maintenance on your trailer
5)had the boat safety inspected by coasties or aux.
6)got a float plan?
7)are you physically ready to go out??being tired may get someone hurt.
are just a few things off the top of my head....

Here are a few things I like to check out:

1) Engine Oil and Filter change
2) Lower unit lube changed
3) I like to replace plugs
4) raw water pickups clean
5) Seacocks (if any) in good working order
6) All hoses are in good shape (no cracking, kinking, flaking)
7) All hose clamps are in good shape?
8) Are there double hose clamps where there should be (almost everywhere)
9) Are the bilge pumps in working order?
10) Make sure all bolts are tightened down
11) Batteries charged (if flooded batteries, make sure they're topped off as well)
12) PFD's, fire extinghuishers, flares, etc all up to spec?
13) All electrical items working correctly?
14) Inspect Bellows, replace if necessary. (If you can't remember or don't know when they were last replaced, then replace the bellows).
15) As Stated: Impellor
16) Drain plug installed.

These are also off the top of my head.

Calm down its only a bowrider Boat has been on my drive all winter plugged into the mains to have a heater running in the engine compartment. Exterior is mint condition as it was machine polished and waxed at the end of last season, will be washed and rewaxed prior to launch date. Tow car is fine, although i am hoping to have the boat moored this season for a few months so i get more use out of her.

I have ordered a service kit for the leg, so will make sure that is all in good order when i do the engine. Fire extinguisher...good call, i need to get two of those!!

LOL, Hey YOU asked. The size of teh boat doesn't dictate whether there are mechanical failures. they all break down and they can all potentially sink. It's JUST an oil change and impellor........until a belt, hose, clamp, shift cable, bellows decides to go.

I had a raw water intake hose come undone while underway, I found out when the boat came off plane and the overheat alarm went off. Then found over a foot of water in the engine compartment.

I know what you are saying, the sea can be an unforgiving place, especially as i will sometimes have a 18 month old child on board! I will go through the whole system and check for any wear an tear, frayed cables, worn belts etc. I have broken down before in a previous boat and had to call for help, its not a fun experience (although having done it once, i will be even calmer if it happens again as i know the drill now)

[QUOTE=seapuppy;14355]BOAT= Break Out Another Thousand!!!

Only in mooring fees perhaps, or very long hour use on a daily basis. Mine wont be used like that due to the tides and crap weather in the UK. Must admit, im my worst enemy, i always work anything i have to near destruction!!
