Default Gas tank

I have a 1994 maxum 19 with a 3.0 liter. The boat sat for 2 years before I got it. The fuel in the tank is bad and has caused some problems. Now I need to remove the fuel tank. any ideas? Do I have to cut up the floor to get it out?

why not open the tank up at the sender.....clean that up...steam or power wash the tank out..and vacuum the water out or drain it via a syphon....and let dry...then rebed the sender and fill with fresh gas??
that will save you from cutting the entire tank out of the bottom of the boat..

Thanks seepuppy. I will suggest that to the mechinac. If he isn't willing to try it I will do that myself.

What do you do with the bad gas/water mixture that you take out. I have no idea how to dispose of it.

Dude, your mechanic is telling you you need a whole new gas tank because you have some old gas in it? You need a new mechanic.

I had a similar situation with my old boat. I drained the tank using an external electric pump. Do not use the merc pump they are very expensive and are meant to run with back pressure. I bought one at the auto store for 30 or so bucks. I gave the old fuel to a farmer I know and he ran it in his old tractors. I flushed the tank with some new gas and sucked that out also. Replace the fuel filter separater and filled the tank with fresh fuel. I also took the carb off and drained the float bowl. Boat ran great after that.

UPDATE: I drained the tank with a hand pump from Pep Boys. I dumped the fuel through a screen into my truck. I cleaned the tank with CLR and water, flushed it 3 times dried it and filled with shell v power gas. Went to the lake and about an hour into our trip the boat broke down. It was flooding out. I am frustrated with this boat. And to boot the truck is running rough because of the bad fuel. If I didnt have bad luck I would have none at all. :?: :x

well..nobody told you here to run the gas in your truck....for your truck...I'd get some gas additive that cleans the gas or suspends the water in the gas...I think the stuff is heet....

as for the boat...rebuild your carb...the seals have all dried out and probably the float has sunk....get it rebuilt...if it sat for 2 yrs and nothing done like fogging the engine and carb...sounds like your just going to have to work thru the problems...once it all gets solved..you'll have fun...

Ya seapuppy I know about the gas in my truck that was my idea. Just trying to salvage 26 gallons of fuel. I added sea foam to the truck it runs fine now. As far as the boat goes the carb was replaced last month. I was thinking maybe after I cleaned up the screen in the tank at the end of the pick up tube, maybe the mechinac had adjusted the carb and now it is running a little rich, any thoughts?

that depends on how he adjusted the carb....if he just adjusted the idle richness jets then that will cause it to run just a bit rich but won't cause it to run badly....if he adjusted the the float..then you have some problems...I'm only taking a wg here..but if he adjusted it wrong..then have him reset it back to where it's supposed to be...just my thoughts...
