Default Dry Ice ...

I have a little galley ice chest that I store under the v berth in my boat. It is used only for food and I only open it a couple times a day.

I've been thinking about layering the bottom of the cooler with some dry ice but I'm concerned about the gasses it gives off... are they harmful?

If I put it in a zip lock bag wouldn't it cut down on the cooling capacity ?

One of the givens on the lake it the daily trip to the marina for ice. I'd like to see if I can stretch that to every other day given it's usually a 30 mile trip and gas is still around 4:80 a gallon when you're wet.

take the bottom of the cooler and line it with blocks of ice....then a good layer of news paper over that....then you can stack all your food in it for a couple of weeks.....dry ice won't hurt your food but is dangerous if not handled properly......

hope this helps

Phillbo, Dry Ice is solid Carbon Dioxide (CO2). Can be very bad in confined spaces.
