Default Cost of repainting or regelcoating a 19 ' boat??

Anybody have any idea what it would cost on average to have a 19 foot bowrider redone proffessionaly? I don't have the time or skill to attempt it and want it done right if I decide to do it. Mine is starting to look somewhat faded and has a few minor dings. I would like to keep it simple, just white, maybe another color added for contrast but no outrageous paint job or anything. The graphics I can do with vinyl that way they aren't permenant. Just need some new shine. A few summers ago I used the poli glow stuff and it worked o.k. and this weekend I removed it as it was breaking down in spots. After it was all removed, the whole boat looked pretty dull. I don't remember it being that bad everywhere and wonder if that poliglow prep/remover sped the process of gelcoat deteriation any. Thus I am hesitant to reapply it again. Anyway just curious what it should cost as there is one shop here that is local and they are a mom and pop type place with not much recommendation. Kind of wanted an idea before I walk in there and get a quote. If it matters, I use my boat in fresh water 99.9% of the time, in case that has any bearing on what type paint/coating would be used. thanks.

well...I'm not sure where you are boating at but I had a buddy of mine have his 30 ftr regel coated for somewhere in the neighborhood of about 5k....this counts the sanding, priming, and gel applications...this is fairly simple for someone with experience and the place to do it....so..yours should be in the neighborhood of about 2k - 2500...plus or minus...

my guess...

take lotsa pic's cuz it's really a facinating process...

Was that the entire boat in and out? What I mean is, was that just the hull area. My dash area is badly faded from the sun. The floor is in good shape, but I want it all to match when it is done. Did he have to remove any of the parts himself before he dropped it off? 2K-2500 would be good if I don't have to do any work, just drop it off and pick it up and it looks good. That's doable.

he didn't remove any parts...just told the guy since his boat was drystored right close to mine.......so..the specialist just did the sanding..removing of parts...his was the hull and part of the fly bridge....since his boat was up on blocks...they picked it up and delivered it to the painter in our area....

Nice. I'll check this week then. Mine is obviously much smaller and stays on a trailer year round. We liver near a couple rivers and just pull it back and forth to them everytime.

Finally got time to drop my boat off at the local shop, "The Boat Doctors". After speaking with the owner and having him take a good look at the boat he stated that the gelcoat was still in good shape. He suggested to me that he just wet sand, cut, buff, and repeat if necessary and that the shine would come back and stay with no problems as long as I mantained it. He seemed pretty knowledgeable and had some nice boats in the yard that he was working on. He said if I wanted to have some paint added to it just for cosmetic preference he would be happy to work a price and let me know, but he could make it look like new without having to repaint anything. He went on to say that quaility paint and materials were expensive, but there wasn't much more labor involved in a simple paint scheme, because he had to sand the areas anyway. He made a few suggestions that could save me some cash and stated he would get me a few different quotes..with minimal paint, lot of paint, no paint etc. I stopped back by on the way home from work and he had a small section of the worst area sanded and buffed out so I could see it. I was shocked, it looked great. I'm glad I went by that place and he at least seems like an honest guy that knows what he is talking about. He probably could have suckered me into spending a lot of cash on some stuff I didn't need. Hopefully the prices will be bareable.

I got the estimate today and wanted opinions on if it sounded like a decent price. He is going to paint some black all the way around the boat and also paint the currently brown strip that goes around the stern area of the boat in black. There are several spots that need to be repaired (cosmetic only) due to use i.e. scratches, nicks, dings etc.. those will be fixed as well. The entire boat will be wet sanded and buffed several times. He also will reapply the cleanup pinstripes in a color of my choice to match the new vinyls that I decide to go with. Basically he said the outside of the boat should look like new. He also added that the paint would have a three year warranty from any flaking, pealing, blistering etc..(not including operator errors). Should it have any defects, he will repaint it for free. He said the brand of paint is a little more expensive, but he "dances with the one that brought him" so to speak, and uses it because he has never had issues and the warranty provides us both with peace of mind in the event something should occurr. Last but not least he promised to have it out before Memorial day weekend. Price is around 1600-1800. I told him to go ahead, but just wanted any input. I believe he said the paint was PPG something or other but not sure. Thoughts???

A little tough to tell from the small photos but it does look like it turned out well!
