Default Boat sanding and detail

Hey All,

I hope everyone is getting off to a good spring? I've just had the boat serviced (oil, filters, impeller, etc) and now I want to bring back its former glory by having it wet sanded. I've had someone come out to the boat with good references. He wants to take the boat for at least 7 days. He says he needs to use 800 then 1200 grit before even thinking about buffing with compound but he seems to think that he can really bring the lustre back. Does this sound right?

I'm almost convinced but my question is, what sounds reasonable in terms of cost? I know it varies, etc but I'd just like to get an idea. He'll pull it out of the water, take it to his shop and put it back in afterwards.

Let me know what you think. Thanks!

BTW, Wales Tales is a 2900SCR. Cheers.

a bottle of 3M clearer and wax for light oxidation, and a buffer wheel... you can hirer a guy for $300 bucks and see if that works.

no need to go over board......

yep...with heavy oxidation....starting with 800 and taking up to 1200 is about the best your gonna get..then some compound and polish would definitely bring it back....it's a mess of work for sure....

What a difference 9Ball. Pascavone, we did that last year and really didn’t help much and that cost us $950 to have someone do it. I don’t have the time or skills to do it myself and it’s a big boat out of the water. I do want to get it done properly though.

the mobile car, rv, boat details do a better job then just the marina guys.

They use the spray bottle, wax, like putting on windex.

the 3M light wax and cleaner is like waxing your car, pulls the black dirt streaks off, and smooths the gel coat like rubbing compound.

i did it my self on a 2800 scr out of the water with a occelating buffer this year, took me 2 days to do the vertical sides.

I gave the guy the go-ahead so he is pulling it today. He tells me it will look "as good as new - almost anyway" ;-)
