Default rudder angle indicator

Anyone ever install a rudder angle indicator guage on a 3300? How did it install? How does it work? Any recomondations?

How many turns from lock to lock? My 2800 was only 3 turns, leaving 1.5 turns between lock and center. My current boat is 6 turns from lock to lock.

Does your 3300 have inboards? For some reason I thought they were all outdrives.

Defender.com Search Results: rudder angle indicator

About $400+ for a complete unit. I've never installed one. I've never seen one on an outdrive setup before.

3300 are I/O. That is where my question comes from. I was wondering how others had and where they installed the sending unit......

I see a mechanical unit from Davis that attaches to the steering wheel and works on gravity. About 25 bucks so I may just try that first

So with I/Os and only 3 turn lock to lock you feel a need for an indicator?

i have a tight slip and the Fairway is only 5-6 feet wider than my boats lenght. SO there is very little room to mess around when docking. I figured it would be quicker to glance at a Guage than to count even a few turns

I have the Davis rudder indicator on my 3200, has sterndrives.
I attached it with velcro instead of its own stick pad, this way it can be later adjusted.
It's good enough to show how "straight" your drives are IMO.

I think I will try the Davis one. Got it yesterday on amazon and it seems like it will do the job. I will have to check the accuracy next time I take the boat out. Thanks jamanati for the response

Once you come down the fairway/thoroughfare I would assume drives would be centered. Once it's time to dock, with twins, I would assume you would only be 'tractoring' the shifters. Are you using the wheel to dock? Have you tried it with the wheel centered and only using the shifters?

I tried one of those cheap rudder angle indicators (the type you stick onto the steering wheel). I'd advise against them. Mine kept falling off so it became useless until I re-calibrated back at the dock.

Yes. More for piece of mind. Once I make the turn into the Fairway I don't have a lot of time to straighten out either. Then it is all Tractor Driving
