Ice maker on this boat is missing the "ice Making" mechanism.
So, Pulled the machine out of the hole, yesterday. Boy is that a tight squeeze up inside the TV hole from below!
Cleaned up, figured out that the PO cut the wires when they removed mechanism. That's why the unit wouldn't come on. Followed the schematic and "hot wired" around the missing mechanism. Compressor and fan kicked right on. Hard to tell if it was getting cool as it was only 43 outside where I was testing!

I have found where to order (everywhere) on line for around $200.00.
Anyone have a unit laying around that maybe died but the ice making mechanism still works? Also, I am looking for the large "factory" Ice bucket and the pin that goes I the door that grabs the latch to hold it shut.

A bucket ebay ? ice maker part junk yard they are almost all the same 4-5 different kinds made only good luck

They shouldn't be hard to find. I see a lot of people removing them altogether. If it were me, I'd replace it with a fridge. For me, I go through way too much ice. I spend most of my time at anchor and don't want to drink water from the water tank.

That is just one man's opinion.

I'm guessing you have a U-Line ice maker. Just replace the ice maker if the freezer is working well. I replaced one once. It's a messy job using the silver conductive gunk that comes in the kit. Since then the freezer went and I replaced the entire unit. I love my ice maker. See if you can order the ice bin from U-Line.

Well, As luck would have it, I did a search on Ad Huntr (Craigslist, nationwide with one click!) and found a complete Uline ice maker, the exact model as mine, with all the parts, ice bucket, everything, right here in my town! (must be a sign!)
So now, I have a working freezer for sale, if anyone needs.

I'd hold onto it. As the units get old the freezers tend to go. The freezer lines are built into the walls of the unit and cannot be serviced once they go.

So I will be replacing the ice making mechanism from a donor machine. What is the messy silver conductive stuff for? I saw it I the kit with the new ones.
Do I need it for the install?

If I remember right, the conductive silver goop goes between the base of the ice making unit and the sheet metal that it sits on. Since all the cold comes from the actual ice maker box the air space that would exist between the two pieces may act as insulation after the ice maker assembly heats up to release the cubes. I think the conductive material might allow the assembly to cool quicker and thus increase the cycle time between batches of cubes. Just a guess. A real refrigeration guy would probably know better.

I agree the silver material is to manage the thermal resistance between the two parts to provide a better heat transfer. Heat flows to cold, the heat is drawn from the ice tray to the cooler.

Yes, now that I just took out the donor piece, I can see that it is a putty-like substance. Still sticky in the middle, but like glue everywhere else,
So the next big question is, can this be purchased locally at big box store, or???

I doubt a big box store will carry it, a place that sells repair parts should.

Is there a trick to getting the the ice maker to work? Haven't had much time to mess with it on my 94 3200 as the drives are my priority, but I made sure the breaker is on and the switch on the bottom of the ice maker is on. Does the fresh water pump need to be on, too?

Powering on (breaker & switch) should get the ice maker cold. You will need the water pump on only to make ice. If it doesn't get cold and the power is on the freezer may be shot. If it gets freezing cold but doesn't make ice the ice maker assembly is probably at fault. Usually it's the timer board. (behind the square plastic cover on the ice maker assembly)

1999 41 SCA. Well she is a 44 SCA now. But the PO took it out. Need cocktails on a warm night.
